对know追根溯源, 我们可以找到词根gno. gno如何演变成know不清楚, 但仅仅从发音考虑 (如k和g, ow和o的发音相似) 也足以记住gno的含义. gno随后繁衍出gnos, gnor, cogn.

接下来, 我们来看几个例子.

dia=across/between/through 通过

gno=知道

sis=名词后缀, 常表示“动作、状态”

diagnosis 诊断(结果), 可以理解为“穿过表面现象,了解真相”.

除了上面这些常见单词, agnostic (不可知论者: 一群人, 认为没有办法知道神是否存在) , agnosticism (不可知论) 同样值得留意. 前缀a来自希腊文, 等同于not/without.
